Choosing the perfect earrings for your wedding

You’ve said ‘yes’ to the dress, now it’s time to accessorise, starting with the perfect pair of earrings.

Earrings are an important finishing touch to your bridal look, framing your face and setting off your gown. But with so many styles to choose from, how do you decide? Below are some initial questions our stylists ask brides to help guide them in their choice.

What is the style of your gown?

Necklines are especially important to consider. Higher necklines are generally better suited to smaller earrings such as drops or studs. Off-the-shoulder, shoulder straps or strapless gowns give you more space to work with - you might consider a mid to chandelier length earring. Is your gown vintage inspired or modern? Structured or bohemian? Your accessories should complement your overall bridal style.

Are you a pearl girl?

If you love pearls and wear pearls regularly, choosing a special pair of pearl earrings for your wedding day is completely appropriate. However if you don’t, it’s best to stay clear.

Gold, silver or rose gold?

You might choose your metal colour to match your wedding bands or shoes or to complement colour tones and embellishments in your gown. Silver looks great with white gowns, gold with ivory or champagne, and rose gold with blush. However, these aren’t hard and fast rules, contrast can be a good thing depending on the gown.

Style/theme of the wedding?

Beach, destination, garden, formal? This can inspire your choice. For example you might choose earrings with floral accents for a garden wedding, or mother of pearl for a beach wedding.

Time of day?

Does the wedding go into the evening? Earrings with some sparkle can be very flattering under lights, but don’t be afraid of wearing some bling during the day - it’s your wedding day so dress up!

A new trend

We don’t make it easy for you to choose a pair of earrings! There are so many gorgeous designs to choose from. But we have noticed a trend: a lot of brides are choosing a smaller, more classic pair of earrings for the ceremony and photos, then changing it up to larger, statement earrings for the reception.

Always chose a pair of earrings that suits your style and personality. That way you can wear them again after the wedding day!

Don’t be afraid to shine!

A bride should never worry about standing out (you are going to no matter what). Once your hair and makeup is done, and you’re wearing your gown and gorgeous glass slippers, you will want to show off!
